FORT-DE-FRANCE, May 2: Anna Fidelia Quirot of Cuba won the women’s 400-metre race in her debut at an outdoor meet since her comeback from a life-threatening fire in 1993.

Michelle Collins was leading the race, but Quirot crossed the finishing line in 51.01 seconds.

It was the third meet of the International Amateur Athletics Federation organised by Martinique General Council at Dillon Stadium in Fort-de-France, capital of the French Caribbean island of Martinique.

Jamaica’s Beverley McDonald and Raymond Stewart swept to comfortable victories in 100-metre races, while Americans Eugene Swift and Melissa Morrison took the hurdles.

McDonald crossed the finishing line in 11.11 and Steward in 10.10s.
