Azhar, Jadeja in world record stand

CUTTACK: Skipper Mohammed Azharuddin (153 not out) and Ajay Jadeja (116 not out) established a new partnership record for any wicket in One-Day Internationals when they added 275 runs in 249 balls for the unconquered fourth wicket in the Pepsi Cup triangular cricket series against Zimbabwe on Thursday.

They erased the existing world record of 263 between Aamir Sohail and Inzamam-ul-Haq set against New Zealand at Sharjah in 1993-94.

Singer George Michael arrested

LONDON: British pop-singer George Michael is facing charges of “lewd conduct” after being arrested by Los Angeles police in a men’s toilet at a Beverley Hills park. The 34-year-old singer was released on bail a few hours later after being booked for disorderly conduct. The police would only say that Michael was followed into the toilets by an undercover officer and that “he was engaging in a lewd act in front of the officer”.

Madhani remand

COIMBATORE: AbdulNasser Madhani, chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who was arrested on charges of harbouring some accused in the February 14 Coimbatore serial blasts, was remanded to judicial custody for three days from Thursday.
