NEW DELHI: In a sudden move, Deputy Chief of Air Force Air Marshal S S H Naqvi and his second-in-command Air Vice Marshal M M Sehgal have submitted their resignations even as a major reshuffle was today carried out in the Air Force with Western Command chief Vinod Pandey, who was in-charge of the Kargil operations, being transferred.

SRINAGAR: Timely detection of an explosive device from the National Public School at Rajouri on Thursday averted a possible tragedy in Jammu amp; Kashmir, where seven people, including five ultras, were killed in separate incidents since Wednesday. A ruling National Conference activist, Abdul Rehman Tramboo, escaped with bullet injuries when militants shot at him.

VSNL chief
NEW DELHI: The PMO has cleared the name of S K Gupta for the post of VSNL8217;s Chairman and Managing Director. He is currently the Chief General Manager in Gujarat. The post has been vacant since last July, when the earlier CMD, B K Syngal retired. Amitabh Kumar, director operations of VSNL has been holding the charge of the acting CMD.

Bihar floods
PATNA: With the major rivers in spate, the flood situation in Bihar remained grim as the toll reached 252. One more death was reported from Bhagalpur district during the day. A Darbhanga report said the floods had caused extensive damage in the district.
