
Sena wants law on foreigners
MUMBAI:The Shiv Sena wants the State Government to pass a resolution requesting the Centre to enact a law prohibiting a person not born in India from becoming the prime minister of the country. Sena spokesman Subhash Desai, addressing a press conference at Shivalaya, the party8217;s office at Nariman Point, said that the party would approach the Chief Ministers of states ruled by Bharatiya Janata Party, to pass similar resolutions. Without naming Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, Desai said only being an Indian national would not suffice to become the prime minister. 8220;The prime minister must be someone born in Hindustan and not outside,8221; Desai said. When pointed out that the government in Mauritius was headed by an Indian, Desai said it was a different case and could not be compared to India.
Koyna rocked
PUNE: Mild tremors with a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale were reported in the Koyna region of Maharashtra by the meteorological office here.The earthquake, recorded at 0639 hours, had its epicentre in Koyna region, 144 km from here, meteorological sources said.
Five Kukis killed
IMPHAL: In a pre-dawn attack on Wednesday, Paite activists shot dead five Kuki villagers, injured three others and torched 53 houses at a village in Manipur8217;s Churachandpur district, reports said. More than 20 armed activists surrounded the Kuki village and opened fire at the villagers.
