Monsoon advances, bit early

PUNE: The meteorological department said on Friday that the southwest monsoon has advanced over south Andaman sea following which heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Kerala during the next 48 hours. Rains or thunder showers are likely to occur at many places in Tamil Nadu, south interior Karanataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep, at a few places in Andaman and Nicobar islands and coastal Karnataka.

Sinatra dead

LOS ANGELES: Singing legend Frank Sinatra has died, according to his publicist Susan Reynolds. He was 82. The crooner known as Ol8217; Blue Eyes was pronounced dead late 11.30 IST on Thursday in the emergency room of Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre of a heart attack, KFWB radio quoted Reynolds as saying. His wife and family were with him when he died, the radio reported.

Scam case

PATNA: The Patna High Court on Friday directed the Centre to submit the report of the A P Dorai Committee probing the alleged controversy over calling of the armyby CBI Joint Director east U N Biswas to arrest former Bihar chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav in connection with the multi-crore fodder scam last year. The Bench comprising Justice S N Jha and Justice S J Mukhopadhaya gave their observation while monitoring the investigation into the fodder scam case here. The court had fixed July 10 as the next date of hearing in this matter.
