Soldiers still in Pak custody
NEW DELHI: The diplomatic wrangle over the release of two Indian soldiers in Pakistani custody for the last 16 days showed no signs of being resolved on Wednesday with New Delhi making it clear that they be handed back as per military custom, away from media glare. Lance Naik Ram Singh and Sepoy Brajinder Singh, part of a six-member patrol, were captured by Pakistani forces after they quot;inadvertently strayed across the Line of Controlquot; on August 29-30.
CRPF men hurt
SRINAGAR: In stepped-up violence before the third phase of Lok Sabha polls on September 18 in Baramulla, 18 people, including seven members of a family and seven ultras, were killed and 40 others, mostly securitymen, were wounded in Kashmir valley since last evening. Two civilians were killed and 32, including 27 CRPF personnel, were wounded when militants detonated an Improvised Explosive Device IED damaging a private bus carrying jawans at Sopore town of Baramulla district this afternoon.

New gold scheme
New Delhi: Government today operationalised the gold deposit scheme to check run-away imports by mobilising the privately-held domestic stock of the yellow metal. The Gold Scheme 8217;99, is also aimed at providing the subscribers with some income, apart from freeing them from the problems of storage, movement and security of gold.
Tension in Orissa
BARIPADA: Tension gripped Bangiriposhi town, about 40 km from here, after about 2,000 tribals staged a demonstration outside the police station and blocked traffic on the National Highway 6 on Wednesday to protest against a police case instituted against them.
