CHANDIGARH, May 29: The city police have arrested a local resident on the charge of negligently causing the death of a 16-year-old patient, and practising as a doctor in the Sector 31 Labour Colony without relevant qualification.

Labour Colony resident Geeta Devi reported to the police that her daughter, Shakuntala, died after Gurnaib Singh administered her the wrong injectable on Wednesday evening. The teenager died in the wee hours of Thursday.

In her complaint, Geeta Devi alleged that Gurnaib Singh was practising as a doctor on the basis of fake documents. She said Shakuntala, who had been unwell for over a month, was taken to Gurnaib Singh on May 25 evening. He gave her tablets and administered an injection. The treatment continued till Wednesday evening and when the girl collapsed after returning from Gurnaib Singh8217;s clinic, she was taken to the Sector 32 GMC, it was claimed.

quot;Despite efforts of the GMC doctors, my daughter died due to Gurnaib Singh8217;s carelessness,quot; the woman alleged in her complaint. The police have registered a case under Sections 304-A, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC against Gurnaib Singh and arrested him.
