CHANDIGARH, Nov 12: The Haryana government today sanctioned small and micro-hydel power projects with a total capacity of 3,620 kw at seven sites to private sector on build-own-operate (BOO) basis. The projects will be set up by Utility Power Tech Limited, Bhoruka Power Corporation Limited and Triveni Engineering and Industries Limited.

The decision, aimed at promoting generation of power from non-conventional sources, was taken by the State Cabinet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bansi Lal. The projects would be set up at Jaidhary at Head, Yamunanagar (100 kw); Delhi sub-branch head, off-taking Delhi branch tail, Delhi (250 kw); Sirsa branch, village Matrawa-Kheri, Kaithal (900 kw); Sirsa Branch, Fatehpur, Naina village, Kaithal (800 kw); Hansi branch near Anta Rest House, Jind (930 kw); Habri Sub-branch, Budhera village, Kaithal (400 kw); and Habri Sub-branch, Basthali village, Karnal (240 kw).

While the projects at Yamunanagar and Delhi would be set up by Utility Power Tech Limited, Bhoruka Power Corporation Ltd, Bangalore, has been short-listed for the projects at Kaithal and Jind. Triveni Engineering and Industries Ltd would set up the project at Habri Sub-branch in Kaithal and Karnal.

The Haryana State Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) will now enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the three companies for preparation of detailed project report. The government had invited proposals from private firms for setting up micro-hydel plants at these sites in the Haryana Canal System in April 1998.

In all, seven firms had shown interest in the projects. Their proposals were evaluated by a Technical Appraisal Committee (TAC) headed by the Chief Engineer of Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam. The report of the TAC was considered by a high-powered committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary.
