PATIALA, APRIL 16: Punjabi University Teachers Association (PUTA) today condemned the Vice-Chancellor’s adamant stand regarding holding of examinations of under-graduate and post-graduate classes, in defiance of the call of boycott given by the coordination committee of the college and university teachers.

A resolution to this effect was passed here today during a protest rally organised by PUTA.

PUTA president S.S. Khaira, appealed to the university teachers to boycott examination work completely in order to get the University Grants Commission (UGC) notification implemented in toto. The association also appealed to the non-teaching staff of the university to support the teachers’ cause by refusing to associate with the examination work.

The association criticised the Vice-Chancellor for appointing his choice of persons as inquiry officers in cases where he wanted to settle personal scores. It demanded that a sitting judge of the High Court be entrusted with the task of inquiring into the reports furnished and submitted by these officers. The syndicate could set up a panel of inquiry officers for this purpose, it said.

Through another resolution, the university teachers’ association also appealed to the chancellor of the university and the state government to make public the vigilance reports regarding charges involving corruption and other matters and initiate action against those found guilty.
