CHANDIGARH, March 3: H S Purewal is an old hand in the region8217;s art realm and one who belongs to the generation of the old guards here like Prem Singh and S. S. Bhatti.
So, the inauguration of an exhibition of his paintings brought all of them together at the Indus Ind Art Gallery, filling the air with nostalgia. Purewal8217;s collection is on two plains: the physical and the spiritual. Hence, in bright shades, we get the throbbing rural life, whether in the form of Punjabi women or in the frame featuring Marathi fisher women. But it is the depiction of the inner self that emerges through his colour composition which attracts one all the more.
It seems Purewal is one for the celebration of life as can be seen from the dancing girls in their bright quot;chunris8221;. He has even quot;embroideredquot; their dupattas through beautiful twisting of colours. The exhibition will be on for a fortnight.
