7-year RI for bid to kill constable
Pune: A criminal who attempted to kill a police constable trying to arrest him in Pimpri market place has been sentenced to seven years RI.

Additional sessions judge M N Patale has convicted Prabhakar Parashuram Kalbhor, 26 and sentenced him to seven years RI and a fine of Rs 500 for attempt to murder a police officer. An additional sentence of three years RI and a fine of Rs 500 was slapped on him for trying to deter a public servant from doing his duty.

The history-sheeter wanted for burgalaries and thefts was spotted at Shagun Chowk, Pimpri, on November 22, 1997 morning. Sub inspector Nandbal Ramchandra Suryavanshi along with constable Prakash Palande kept watch on the locality and apprehended Kalbhor when he was visiting a neighbourhood laundry. When Kalbhor was told that he was being taken under arrest, he got into a scuffle with the constables and pelting them with stones. He was caught by Palande and in the scuffle caught hold of the constable8217;s private parts and attempted to harm him. He refused to let go the constable even at gunpoint and finally SI Suryavanshi had to fire at Kalbhor8217;s foot and shoulder to make him release Palande.
