Pardeshi cautions engineers
Substantial spending of amounts on frequent repairs to roads and drainages in Pimpri-Chinchwad has prompted Municipal Commissioner Pravinsinh Pardeshi to caution the engineering work departments that 8220;no repair works should be undertaken for a minimum of three years after the original work has been completed.8221;

While the entire amount incurred on the repair work would be recovered from the concerned executive engineer if it was initiated without the notice of the City Engineer, the concerned authorities would also face departmental action, Pardeshi warned in a directive.

The complaints from citizens regarding frequent repairs works to roads and drainages had increased, Pardeshi stated adding that henceforth there should the departmental offices and the executive engineers should stringently check whether the stipulated procedures for ensuring good quality of the work are being followed. Huge expenditures were incurred because of frequent repairs to the roads and drainages, the directive stated. The contractor would be held responsible if he was found responsible for any negligence in carrying out the work.

While no work could hence forth be undertaken before a minimum period of three years, the City Engineer would have to submit a report stating the reasons, if any, for initiating the work.

Shetty resigns
Jagdish Shetty, BJP member of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Transport committee, has submitted his resignation following orders from his party. Shetty who won as a rebel candidate was served with a show-cause notice and was asked to submit his resignation by July 20.

Meanwhile, former party unit president Vasant Vani suspended from the party for six years in a veiled threat to the party seniors said that he was planning to float a new unit. He claimed that all the party workers supported him as he has been an active member since last thirty years.

A search for a new president is now on the cards after the dissolution of the executive committee of which Dada Dhavan was the president. Some of the likely candidates for the post include Pratibha Lokhande, Vasant Shevde, and Madhu Joshi.
