Panel opposes octroi abolition
Save Octroi Committee, representing civic employees and mayors, chairpersons of the municipal councils corporators in the State has opposed the Government decision to abolish octroi.

A meeting of the committee, called by Mayor Datta Gaikwad, urged the State Government to reconsider its decision. A resolution passed at the meeting has expressed fear that the entire civic life of the State would collapse since octroi was the major source of income for the local self governments.

The committee meeting said the State Government8217;s decision was against the spirit of the Union Government, which was taking various steps to strengthen the local self governments. Through a resolution, the meeting expressed fear that the functioning of local self governments would be severely affected since government aid never comes in time. A delegation of the committee would soon call on Chief Minister Narayan Rane in this connection.

Six affected by food-poisoning
Six persons, including two children, were admitted to Sassoon Hospital after suffering from food poisoning in two separate incidents on Sunday night. Hospital authorities said they were out of danger.

Four-year-old Iqbal Ishaq Bagwan from Mangalwar Peth and his six-year-old sister Amina suffered from dehydration after eating mango pulp on Sunday night. Faraskhana police are probing the matter.
