Gawli aides arrested
Two youths from Laxminagar slums in Yerawada, who claimed to be members of Arun Gawli gang, were on Monday arrested by the crime branch sleuths on charges of extortion.

Ravi Shetti alias Gopichand D Dhale (28) and Kailash P Nikam (30) allegedly tried to extract Rs 42,000 from Banwarilal Kashiprasad Sharma (51) after threatening to murder his son.

Sharma, who resides at Narveer Tanajiwadi in Shivajinagar, runs a trading corporation at Yashovinayak Apartments building in Shaniwar Peth. Shetty had called up Sharma at his office saying that some of his rivals had let out a contract on the life of his son, police said. Shetty allegedly claimed that some shooters of Gawli gang were already in Pune to kill Sharma’s son. He threatened that the gang would kill Sharma too if he failed to pay Rs 42,000 towards the bill of the hotel where the mercenaries were staying.

Dacoits strike
Two persons were injured when attacked by the dacoits who targeted their residence at Dhargaon village near Indapur early on Monday. Cash as well as gold and silver ornaments, totally estimated to be worth over Rs 32,000, were stolen in the mishap.The injured, Kisan Jagtap and his son Sahadeo, were discharged after being treated at the government hospital at Indapur. Police said the Jagtaps were fast asleep when the dacoits broke open the door.
