Normal water supply resumes
Residents from the Pune Cantonment areas, who had faced acute water shortage during the past two days following the Mutha Righ Bank canal breach, had a sigh of relief on Tuesday when the tap water supply resumed.

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) water department chief Ramesh Ghodke claimed that normal water supply was restored in cantonment areas since morning. He, however, admitted that morning water supply to fringe and high level areas coming under the Pune Cantonment water works was delayed and at low pressure.

The irrigation department had completed the repairs to the breached canal wall on Monday itself. However, a big excavator which was used to desilt the canal bed got stuck in it, restraining the irrigation department from discharging required quantum of raw water. The excavator was lifted late on Monday evening paving way for discharge of 400 cusecs of raw water from the Khadakwasla dam in the canal.

Meanwhile, water supply to Bhavani Peth, Gultekdi, Mukundnagar, Mitramandal, Mangalwar Peth and Ghorpade Peth was disrupted on Tuesday evening as the water main to the area once again breached near the Volga Chowk.
