PU professor gets Rs 12-lakh grant

Dr Meenakshi Goyal, a reader in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Panjab University PU, has been sanctioned a research project, the duration of which will be three years, 8216;Design Parameters and Theoretical models for the Adsorption of Toxic Chemical Compounds using Fixed Bed Activated Carbon Columns8217; amounting to Rs 12 lakh by the Union Ministry of Defence.nbsp;

The aim of the project is to develop activated carbon technology for industrial pollution control. Dr Goyal is already working on two research projects entitled 8216;Surface, Structure, Characterisation and Adsorptive properties of Modified Activated Carbons8217; worth Rs 14.95 lakh sanctioned by the Ministry of Defence and 8216;Adsorptive Removal of Toxic Vapors and Gases by Activated Carbons8217; worth Rs 15 lakh sanctioned by AICTE.

At present, four students are working under her supervision on different aspects of activated carbon adsorption and environmental cleanup.

One of her PhD students, Rashmi Dhawan, was awarded the first prize in the poster presentation innbsp;the second Chandigarh Science Congress, recently held in Panjab University.
