CHANDIGARH, SEPT 15: Panjab University Vice-Chancellor today gave the names of the three persons who would constitute the Election Tribunal for the elections to the Students8217; Council of the University to be held on September 24. Prof S.K. Malik, Dean Foreign Students, from the department of Mathematics, has been appointed the chairman of the tribunal. Prof Pradeep Kumar from the Department of Political Science and Dr Bal Krishan from the Department of Laws have been appointed the members of the tribunal. quot;All complaints and grievances regarding elections would be taken up by the tribunalquot;, said V.K. Bansal, Dean Student Welfare.

The elections are going to be held to the posts of office bearers and departmental representative/s of the council in the University campus and in the colleges affiliated to PU in Chandigarh. However, today the Students of Government College of Arts in a representation to the Vice-Chancellor, DSW and the Education department, have demanded for the conduction of elections to student council in their college immediately. In the representation, Harinder Pal Singh said that the students face a lot of problems in the absence of any elected forum to voice their grievances.

The Panjab University Students Union PUSU has also demanded that election should be started in Punjab Engineering College, Government Medical College and in Government College of Arts. Gurinder Singh Grewal, chairman of PUSU, and ex-president PUCSC Munish Anand added that equal representation to the girl students would be given and PUSU would give priority to contest independently.

The Chandigarh unit of Student Federation of India SFI, in a general body meeting held today, said the federation would contest the elections and would work to unite all the secular and progressive students to isolate communal forces.
