
PUNE, Oct 20: Pune MP Pradeep Rawat called for a level playing field for industrialists. He believed that real progress was possible only through proper coordination between society, industry and bureaucracy.
Rawat was addressing a meeting called by the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture MCCIA on Tuesday to discuss problems faced by industrialists. 8220;We have to change the whole mind-set and create a win-win situation to create a quality product,8221; he said. Rawat agreed that the archaic labour laws posed a number of problems for industrialists and believed that a tough political will was required to fight these laws. The true meaning of level playing field would be to remove major hurdles before entrepreneurs and increase the pace of reforms, he said.
The Mahratta Chamber earlier submitted a memorandum to the MP urging him to work out a solution to the numerous issues before the industry. Earlier, the chamber submitted a memorandum to him presenting a number of issues faced by industrialists.
The chamber urged Rawat to speed up the process for the completion of the cargo container facility at Lohegaon airport so that international flights could commence soon. The chamber believed that steps should be taken for bio-tech investment in Pune against the backdrop of the tremendous R amp; D infrastructure. The chamber has demanded a uniform rate of sales tax throughout the country and also free movement of goods.
It believed that octroi, the revenue of the local authority could be abolished at all levels and compensated by way of adding nominally charges in the taxes. Tax consultant Shantilal Shah said that pending bills like FEMA, Companies Act, IRA, Income tax should be cleared immediately and outdated laws be scrapped.
MCCIA president Prataprao Pawar called for change in the labour laws and felt that entrepreneurs should be permitted to retrench labour.
