CHANDIGARH, Dec 7: A national programme of consultation on Cooperative Policy, Legislation and Administration was inaugrated by K.S. Janjua, IAS, financial commissioner, Cooperation, Punjab, at Hotel Picaddily here today.

Welcoming the delegates, including Schwettman from the ILO, Geneva; K.K. Tamini also of the ILO, the registrar Cooperative Societies, Punjab, J.R. Kundal, said that the deliberations in the programme would provide new guidelines for the development of co-operatives in Punjab. The inaugural address which was to be delivered by Parkash Singh Badal Chief Minister Punjab was read out. In the address, he said that in a country so diverse as India is, an economic system which is based on participatory democratic principle, mutual sharing of responsibility and dividends is the most suited.

He added that whereas the country was facing problems of recession, and profitability of our traditional agriculture, cooperative has a great potential in providing a dependable means to prosper.
