Skipper Unmukt Chand led from the front with an unbeaten 112 as India recorded a convincing seven-wicket win over Australia to clinch the Under-19 Quadrangular Championship on Sunday.

The victory is all the more praiseworthy as Australia had senior team paceman Pat Cummins in their ranks. Chand countered Cummins with ease, slamming nine fours and six sixes in his 127-ball knock,as India chased down the target of 195 with a little more than seven overs to spare at the Endeavour Park.

Chand had smashed 94 in Indias 63-run win over England in the semi-final of the tournament and looked in fine touch in the final too,and even Cummins, who took five wickets in his Test debut in South Africa, could not trouble the batsman.

Opting to field,India rode on Sandeep Sharmas four-wicket haul to restrict the hosts to 194 for nine in the stipulated 50 overs. Harmeet Singh took two for 33 in his quota overs while there was a wicket each for Kamal Passi,Vikas Mishra and Baba Aparajith.

Opener Meyrick Buchanan 59 off 68 balls and lower-order batsman Sam Hain 41 not out were the major contributors for the Australians.

India suffered early setbacks, losing opener Akhil Herwadkar and Manan Vohra, but thereafter there was no looking back. Chand was also involved in two half-century partnerships with Vijay Zol 21 and Akshdeep Nath 24 not out.

Brief scores: Australia U-19 194/9 in 50 overs Meyrick Buchanan 59,Sam Hain 41; Sandeep Sharma 4/51,Harmeet Singh 2/33 vs India U-19 198/3 in 42.4 overs Unmukt Chand 112 not out
