SSP Chowrasia turned in a four-over 77 to finish tied 56th after the final round of the Trophee Hassan II golf tournament in Morocco. The Kolkata pro couldnt manage a single birdie and dropped as many as four bogeys to aggregate one-under 290,to sign off two strokes behind compatriot Shiv Kapur,who carded one-over 74 for the second day on the trot to finish tied 52. Welshman Rhys Davies blasted a seven-under 66 to pip South African Louis Oosthuizen 70 by two strokes on the difficult red course with a total of 25-under 266.

India fall to third defeat

The Indian womens hockey team suffered their third successive defeat at the hands of Japan as the hosts took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the four-match test series at Gifu Green Stadium,Kakamigahara. The Indians were spanked 0-3 by Japan in the third match of the Test series. Japan earlier won the first two matches 3-0 and 4-1 respectively.

Juniors out of team event

India went down to Thailand 1-3 in the quarterfinals to exit the team event of badminton8217;s Asia Youth U-19 Championships in Kuala Lumpur. Earlier in their group ties,the Indians had blanked Cambodia 5-0,and edged out Japan 3-2 to make the quarters of the youth event,with the mixed doubles pair of Pranav Chopra-Prajakta Sawant remaining unbeaten through the three matches. India disappointed in the womens singles and doubles though,in the five-tie team format of mens and womens singles and doubles and mixed doubles.

Tyson show ruffles feathers

An animal welfare group wants New York City prosecutors to investigate boxing great Mike Tysons upcoming reality television show about pigeon racing. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals alleges the Brooklyn-based show is cruel to animals. It says races likely will involve illegal gambling. The show will follow Tyson as he competes in pigeon races.

Ljubicic upsets Roddick in final

Ivan Ljubicic celebrated his first Masters 1000 title after upsetting seventh-seeded American Andy Roddick 7-6 7-6 in the final of the Indian Wells ATP tournament on Sunday. The big-serving Ljubicic,seeded 20th,fired down 20 aces and hit 42 winners to seal an emotional victory in just over two hours on the stadium court at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Appearing in his fourth Masters final,the 31-year-old clinched the second-set tie-break 7-5 after unleashing a booming service winner before thrusting both arms skywards. Ljubicic then removed his sweatband before walking to the net to shake hands with Roddick,who had saved three match points in the tiebreak after clawing his way back from 5-1 down.

Terry to escape UEFA action

UEFA will not investigate John Terry for criticising the quality of referees in Champions League matches. UEFA said that its disciplinary unit declined to open a case against the Chelsea captain based on his comments. Reports quoted Terry as saying that German referee Wolfgang Stark gave a really bad performance in Chelseas 1-0 loss to Inter Milan. Stark rejected two penalty appeals as the London club went out at the round-of-16 stage.
