Man United,Liverpool lose
Champions Manchester United suffered a 3-0 thrashing at Fulham on Saturday to remain three points adrift of Chelsea in the Premier League. Goals by Danny Murphy,Bobby Zamora and Damien Duff condemned United to their second league defeat in eight days. In an another surprising result,Liverpool lost 2-0 at bottom club Portsmouth. Third-placed Aston Villa moved to within two points of United with a 1-0 home win over Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur won 2-0 at Blackburn Rovers to return to the top four. Manchester City edged a cracker against Sunderland at Eastlands,winning 4-3 for only their second victory in 11 league matches.
Women wrestlers win 3 gold
India continued their impressive performance on the second day of the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship with Indian women winning 11 medals three gold,four silver and four bronze. Babita Kumari 51 Kg,Geeta 55 Kg and Alka Tomar 59 Kg won gold. The other four gold medals in the fray were shared between Cameroon and Canada. Indian women also won the overall team championship gold.
Ghosal,Chinappa in finals
Top seed Saurav Ghosal stormed into the final of the National squash championship with a 11-4 11-2 11-5 win over Gaurav Nandrajog at the Gymkhana Club. Ghosal will face Tamil Nadus Harinder Pal Singh,who scored a 6-11 11-9 12-10 13-15 11-8 victory over Siddharth Suchde. In the womens section,top seed Joshna Chinappa will face Anaka Alankamony in the final on Sunday. Chinappa beat Aparajita Balamurukan 11-5 11-5 11-5 while Alankamony beat Saumya Karki 11-6 11-8 7-11 11-3.
Ten countries for Asian chess
More than a hundred top players from ten countries,including 20 Grandmasters,will take part in 16th Asian Team Chess championship to be held here from December 20 to 26. The event is organised by the Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy formed by Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua. Participating nations include Bangladesh,Nepal,Sri Lanka,Iran,Yemen,Singapore,Mongolia,Indonesia,Vietnam and India.
