Former Pakistan cricket greats have demanded a new national team captain and coach after an embarrassing defeat against Zimbabwe in the Harare Test. Ramiz Raja said the Pakistan team needed a fresh captain to replace Misbah-ul Haq. Misbah contributed to a change of environment and gave stability to the team but he seems to have run out of ideas,so we need someone with fresh ideas, Raja said. Shoaib Akhtar said: Misbah is leading the worst-ever Pakistan team. We dont have good bowlers,we dont have good batsmen and if Misbah is prominent amongst the batsmen then it shows because,with due respect,Misbah is not world class.

Viru,Virat in Delhi probables list

Bekele wins Great North Run

Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia held off a late challenge from local favorite Mo Farah to win the Great North Run on Sunday in a thrilling finish. Bekele,competing in his first competitive half marathon,made his move with under two kilometers to go but had to fend off a charge from Farah in the last 400 meters as the British runner failed to pip his rival on the line. Bekele won the race by one second from Farah. Ethiopian great Haile Gebrselassie was third. Im disappointed but I was second to a great athlete, said Farah. I thought I could come back. It came to the last 200m,right to the line. It was a great race and a great finish.

Barcas Alba out for 3 weeks

Barcelona says left back Jordi Alba will be sidelined for around three weeks after tearing a muscle in his right leg. Alba was substituted early in Saturdays Spanish league match,a 3-2 win over Sevilla. The injury will rule Alba out of Barcelonas Champions League opener at home against Ajax on Wednesday and its second group phase match at Celtic on October 1.

Sanam beaten in final

Sanam Singh will have to wait for his second title of the season as he suffered a tame defeat against Peter Polansky in the summit clash of the ITF mens Futures tournament in Toronto,Canada. Second seeded Sanam lost 2-6 2-6 to his top seeded rival,a local favourite,in the final match of the $ 15,000 hard court tournament. Meanwhile,N Sriram Balaji and Ranjeet Virali Murugesan won the doubles title in Sharam-Al-Sheikh. The top seeded Indian pair defeated Egyptian fourth seeds Karim Hossam and Karim-Mohammed Maamoun 6-4 7-6 (10).

Aus police arrest 10 in fixing raid

Australian police arrested 10 people,many of them British,across Melbourne early on Sunday as part of an operation to smash a multi-million dollar matchfixing ring centred on the second tier Victorian Premier League. Police said their investigation started in August and had been prompted by information provided by the Football Federation of Australia (FFA).It is believed the players and staff involved are all affiliated with the one sporting club, read a Victoria Police statement.

West Ham,Southampton draw

Southampton and West Ham United cancelled each other out in a dismal 0-0 draw in the Premier League on Sunday. Neither side possessed much attacking quality although it was Southampton who carved out the better opportunities. West Hams Finnish keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen made a couple of fine saves,one to deny England striker Rickie Lambert in the closing stages and another to keep out Morgan Schneiderlins skidding volley.
