No foreign players in CAB league

Following a controversy over the signing of Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya,the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has barred foreign players from playing in any local tournament. The decision will prevent Jayasuriya and Thilan Samarawera from playing as well. Both Mohun Bagan and Kalighat had claimed that the former Sri Lankan captain was in their side.

IPL announces final 66

Pakistan,Australia and South Africa players dominate the final list of 66 for the third Indian Premier League auction to be held in Mumbai on Tuesday. The list includes 11 players from Pakistan,Australia and South Africa each,nine from Sri Lanka,eight from England and West Indies,four from New Zealand and one each from Bangladesh,Canada,Zimbabwe and Holland. Former Indian Cricket League players include New Zealands Shane Bond and Australian Damien Martyn.

South Africa drop rating points

Indias position at the top of ICCs Test Championship table was strengthened as a result of a drop in South Africas ratings points following their 1-1 draw with England in the four-match home series. South Africa can now attain the top spot only if Bangladesh beat India in the two-Test series which started in Chittagong on Sunday.

Nanao,Suranjoy win titles

Thokchom Nanao Singh,Suranjoy Singh and Dilbagh Singh won the titles in their respective weight categories at the fourth Super Cup Boxing Championship in Mumbai. Chhote Lal Yadav,however,lost his 69 kg bout to Sandeep Kumar. Nanao beat Amandeep Singh 10-3 in the 48 kg division,while ,while Suranjoy got the better of Sunil Kumar 5-3 in the 51 kg category.

Bagan thrash Air India 5-0

Four goals by Brazilian Jose Ramirez Barreto helped Mohun Bagan thrash Air India 5-0 in a Round 10 I League clash in Mumbai. Kalia Kulothungan was the other scorer. Bagan now have 17 points from 10 matches,while Air India only have five. In Margao,Edmar Figueira scored twice to guide Pune FC to a 3-1 win over Salgaocar. Pune FC moved to 12 points from 10 matches,while Salgaocar stayed on seven.

Anand opens with draw

Viswanathan Anand opened his campaign with a draw against defending champion Sergey Karjakin in A group of Corus Chess in Wijk Aan Zee in the The Netherlands. GM Alexei Shirov and Loek van Wely took the early lead event. In the B group,Indian GM P Harikrishna lost to Dutch GM Anish Giri,while Parimarjan Negi drew with Englands David Howell.

Maghami takes lead

Third seed GM Maghami Ehsan Ghaem of Iran defeated IM Oliver Dimakiling of Philippines to emerge as the sole leader at the end of the sixth round at the Parsvnath International Chess in New Delhi. In other results of the day,overnight joint leader Uzbek GM Saidali Iuldachev suffered his first defeat in the event at the hands of Russian Maxim Turov.
