Life is about to come a full circle for Ajay Jadeja with the former India opener likely to make a return to the Haryana state team after 15 years. The 42-year-old right-hander,who is presently on a quest to recommence his cricket career after a five-year hiatus,had represented Haryana for a decade,making his first-class debut for them back in October 1988.
Jadeja last played first-class cricket for Rajasthan during the 2006-07 season before turning into a full-time TV pundit. Presently leading Haryana in the Buchi Babu tournament in Chennai,the right-hander scored 37 on Friday-his first competitive outing in over six years as part of a 67-run win for his team.
Theres a high probability,based on views coming out of the Haryana camp,that Jadeja might end up captaining his former state during the upcoming Ranji Trophy season as well.
Too early
Anirudh Chaudhary,Haryana Cricket Association (HCA) secretary,though insisted that it was too early to comment on Jadejas immediate future as of now.
I have spoken to some players there and they have said that having Ajay around has been a learning experience for them. Ajay has got a busy schedule,and already has a lot of other commitments, Chaudhary said.
We at present are looking at him to mentor a few extremely talented players through different cricketing situations. As far as him playing for Haryana is concerned,it will depend on the selectors and also on Jadejas availibility, HCA secretary Chaudhry said.
