A US man attempted to rob a bank of $1 so he could get arrested, and he even had to confirm that he was conducting a real robbery because staff thought it was a joke.

Jeffrey McMullen,50,reportedly went into the AmeriServ bank in Northern Cambria and demanded staff hand over the money by giving them a note he had pre-written.

It read: “Federal bank robbery. Please hand over $1.”

He also handed in a second note, which stated: “FBI custody. Preferably Loretto Pa. No press. Seal all files.”

Due to McMullen’s unusual robbery staff thought he was joking so he had to confirm to a new accounts employee that it was indeed a real robbery and all he wanted was a dollar.

She eventually gave him the buck and then called the police.

McMullen – who has no previous convictions – is said to have happily waited for their arrival as it is believed he wanted to get arrested and sentenced to a central Pennsylvania prison. His motives are not known yet.

McMullen was put before district judge Michael Zungali, who said he should post a $50,000 bond and have a mental health exam before being released from prison.
