Fans lined up at midnight in Tokyo,eager to get their hands on the latest Haruki Murakami novel,the first in three years by the Nobel Prize favourite. The publisher is printing 600,000 copies of Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage to assuage the appetite of fans kept in the dark about the books subject and storyline. Murakami,who regularly tops bookmakers lists,confessed that much of the book had been a surprise even to himself.

Beyonces Cuba trip now a cultural trend

When the US Treasury Department approved a cultural trip to Cuba last week,it had no idea that those travelling included American pop superstar Beyonce and her rapper husband Jay-Z. The visit caused a stir because of the high profile of Beyonce and Jay-Z. A longstanding US trade embargo against Communist-led Cuba bars most Americans from travelling there without a licence from the government,and specifically prohibits tourism. US Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen responded to a Treasury Department letter on the issue by calling Beyonce and Jay-Zs trip a scam endeavour.
