The controversial SMS game 6UP,which was taken off air during the Indian Premier League IPL,has tied up with former Australian skipper Steve Waughs foundation and is set for a re-launch,one of the games founders said on Friday.
He said a percentage of the revenue will go to Steve Waugh Foundation Global,a charity organisation aimed at helping children suffering from leprosy. The game, which required its participants to predict runs per over and how they spread across the six balls,in return for cash prizes, was launched in partnership with the IPL but withdrawn soon after Sports Minister MS Gill expressed apprehensions about it,saying it could encourage gambling.
It 6UP is a lot of fun and very interactive, Waugh told The Indian Express. If you follow cricket, you would know that there is nothing scandalous about it. Im extremely happy with the product and am looking forward to a great future together, he added.
Meanwhile, the games co-founder,George Tomeski, said he had not expected the games format to be questioned during the IPL.
I underestimated the reaction. Since withdrawing the game,Ive spoken to the authorities and a lot of people concerning the legality of the game, he said. They all say its completely legal. The game was misunderstood. Ive made some changes to the game and will re-launch it soon.
