Injured Nikolay Davydenko has only an outside chance of playing for Russia in this week’s Davis Cup first-round tie against India, team captain Shamil Tarpishchev said on Tuesday.
“His participation is in doubt,” Tarpishchev told reporters. “I would say his chances are very, very small.”
World number six Davydenko is nursing a wrist injury.
Tarpishchev has added 38th-ranked Igor Andreev to the team of world number 13 Mikhail Youzhny,Igor Kunitsyn and Teimuraz Gabashvili for the March 5-7 tie on clay at Moscow’s Luzhniki arena in case Davydenko is unavailable.
Even without Davydenko,Russia, unbeaten at home since 1995,should be too strong for the Indians,Tarpishchev said.
“We have a home-court advantage,it’s a slow court so our chances are still very good,” he said.
