While the Indian team battles it out on the turf, the off-field rift between rival administrative bodies Hockey India HI and Indian Hockey Federation IHF seems to be finally headed for a solution.
The two parties have been involved in talks for the past week on the sidelines of the Olympic qualifiers and IHF president RK Shetty said a decision is likely by Sunday evening. The best thing is that the talks this time have involved not only HI and IHF but also the International Hockey Federation FIH. Last time, they had objected to the working arrangement that we had agreed to. But this time, talks have been very encouraging and I am hopeful of reaching some kind of agreement in our meeting on Sunday morning, Shetty said.
FIH president Leandro Negre has also met KPS Gill and HI secretary general Narinder Batra. Sources have confirmed that the compromise worked out is likely to see the WSH going ahead and would also see players participating in it,in future national camps. In addition,a joint working body to administer the game will be formed.
While HI officials refused to state anything on record, sources said their Executive Council meeting on Saturday discussed these contentious issues.
We have had a series of meeting in the past one week and they have been very cordial. The FIH is keen to resolve the issue, everyone has been kept in the loop. Now we are waiting for the final meeting, Shetty said.
