Darren Lehmann picks Shane Watson,Chris Rogers as openers for The Ashes

Cricket Australia revealed the selection of the openers via Twitter on Monday.

David Warner’s hopes of an immediate return to the Australia team after suspension have been dashed after coach Darren Lehmann confirmed Shane Watson and Chris Rogers will open the batting in the first Ashes test against England next week.

Cricket Australia revealed the selection of the openers via Twitter on Monday.

Warner’s ban for punching England batsman Joe Root in a late-night bar incident last month expires in time for the first test, starting July 10 in Nottingham, but he looks to have missed out.

The 35-year-old Rogers’ only previous test for Australia came in 2008 but he forced his way back into the squad on the back of consistently big scores in domestic cricket for Victoria and Western Australia.

The left-hander also has experienced English conditions after playing county cricket, most recently for Middlesex.
