R Ashwin has been trusted with the new ball on several occasions by MS Dhoni in Chennai Super Kings history. While it may have worked well enough for Dhoni to toss the ball toward the off-spinner in the Super Over,it would be fair to say that the decision didnt pay off on Saturday. Ashwin was smashed for 23 runs, which included three massive sixes off David Husseys blade. It proved too much for the CSK,as they lost by 10 runs in the Super Over.
Chasing 163 in a thriller of a game,Victoria seemed to be well set at 140 for 4 with three overs and two well set batsmen in David Hussey and Rob Quiney in hand before Suresh Raina took 2 wickets in the last over to send the match into the Super Over.
Earlier batting first,Chennai Super Kings went through two low scoring periods of play in the start and end of their innings before ultimately scoring 162. While not losing wickets early on,CSK scored relatively sedately hitting only 37 runs in the first Power Play. It was Murali Vijay who provided some impetus to the innings hitting 4 sixes in his 73 of 53 balls. Towards the end of their innings CSK struggled once again scoring just 14 runs between over 17 and 19 and losing a wicket in each of the overs.
Brief scores: Chennai Super Kings 162 for 6 in 20 overs Murali Vijay 73,Michael Hussey 25, John Hastings 2/22,Clint Mckay 2/33; Victoria 162 all out in 20 overs David Hussey 51,Aaron Finch 41,Suresh Raina 4/26,Muttiah Muralitharan 2/17
