Briatore accepts F1 ban

The charismatic F1 man is out of F1 until 2013.

Flavio Briatore has agreed to have no part in Formula One until 2013 after the sport’s governing body accepted the former Renault team principal’s offer to end an appeal of his lifetime ban.

Briatore, who was sanctioned for ordering a driver to crash his car, will also not be allowed to take part in any FIA activities until the end of the 2011 season.

Pat Symonds, the former chief engineer who received a five-year ban for his part in Nelson Piquet Jr.’s crash, also accepted the decision.

FIA says it accepted the offer with its “best interests” in mind, and to end the legal disputes which “are very prejudicial to the image of the FIA and of motor sport.”

Briatore appealed after a Paris court overturned the ban in January.
