A Rs 250 cr boost for coaches training

A National Institute of Coaching Education will be established with the aim of producing 'quality coaches of international standards' for which Rs 250 crore was allotted in the 2013-14 budget for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

A National Institute of Coaching Education will be established with the aim of producing 8216;quality coaches of international standards8217; for which Rs 250 crore was allotted in the 2013-14 budget for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

To establish the national coaching centre,the National Institute of Sport in Patiala will be de-merged from the Sports Authority of India. In all the finance ministry allocated Rs1,219cr to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for the new fiscal year,an increase of Rs 214cr. For 2012-13,the sports ministry was alloted Rs1,152cr,which was later revised to approximately Rs1005.60cr. Out of the total outlay,Rs 792.72cr has been kept aside for sports and games while the youth affairs department will receive Rs301cr.

I am satisfied with the budget. It has been a significant increase from last year,8221; sports secretary PK Deb said. 8220;There is always scope for allocating more funds to a ministry and same is the case with sports. But finance ministry has provided us with this amount and we are okay with it. In case,we need more funds,we will surely go back to the finance ministry.8221;

The Sports Authority of India SAI will receive Rs 326 cr out of the total amount sanctioned,while Rs160 cr will be given to the National Sports Federations. Last year,the sports federations received Rs110 crore.

SAI DG transferred

Meanwhile,SAI Director General Gopal Krishna has been transferred to the Ministry of Law and Justice as a joint secretary. It is learnt that Krishna received his transfer orders on Wednesday.
