AMBALA, July 9: The principal and management of the SA Jain College, Ambala City, a minority-run institution, have expressed concern over not being allowed to introduce BBA Course from the 1998-99 academic session following unfavourable report made by an Inspection Committee to the Vice-Chancellor, Kurukshetra University. In an open letter to the Vice-Chancellor, Principal C.L. Singla alleged that his college was singled out in not granting the permission on flimsy grounds. He said they had applied for the same much earlier, first in the month of March and again in April, remitting the requisite fee of Rs 2,000 and 5,000 plus 100 per cent extra as special fee respectively to grant permission on self-financing basis.

Singla alleged that the Inspection committee head by N.K. Mittal had made an adverse report which was “purely arbitrary…and deliberately over delayed” since he nursed a grudge against him because his (Mittal’s) son was rejected by the selection committee for the post of a lecturer. He said that he was continuously approached and influenced by Mittal for the selection of his son who could not be selected since he did not fulfill the recruitment conditions.

Mittal, being head of the Commerce Department, had managed to head the Inspection Committee. The committee report, which stated that the college was not suitable for holding BBA classes, had surprised the college management. The Principal further alleged that the committee intentionally denied permission despite the fact that the “college had a strong infra-structure with 18 members of the teaching staff meant only for commerce and economics.” He said that the college had given the assurance that apart from the existing infrastructure, the college would add more books to the library, purchase overhead projectors, TV, VCR, slide projector etc. – important tools for imparting the management education. Singla, while urging the Vice-Chancellor for grant of permission to start the BBA classes, demanded an inquiry into the matter.
