More than 150 priests have gathered on the banks of the Narmada to perform a month long Maha Rudra Yagna, in a bid to combat terrorism.

It is an endeavour to cleanse the system of negative vibes created by incidents such as the Mumbai terror attack, said Raghavendra, vice president of the Sridivya Shakti Peeth Anand Ashray Dham (SSPAAD).

“There is an SSPAAD ashram on the banks of the Narmada, where priests from Chitrakoot, Banaras, Rishikesh, Haridwar and Uttarkashi have congregated to perform this yagna. The priests have selected this venue, as it is believed that yagna on the banks of the Narmada is always complete, so says the Sanskrit hymn Rewa Tatah Tapah Koriyad, Marnam Jhanvi Tate,” said Raghavendra. Even priests from Gangotri will take part in the yagna.

“There will be a series of yagna, which will be performed for nearly eleven hours with round-the-clock hymn chanting,” added Ragvendra.

There are around two SSPAAD ashrams in India: one at the banks of Gangotri river; the other on the banks of the Narmada.
