
Nagpur, September 22: Prathamesh Mokal and Ashwini Kulkarni, both from Pune, annexed the boys and girls titles respectively in the G H Raisoni Memorial Maharashtra Junior Chess Championship, organised by the Vidarbha Chess Association here at the Parate Sabhagriha today.
Maras Nagpur, Arjun Tiwari, Mayank Lad Nashik, Hitesh Jeswani, Pratik Shriwas, Vijay Deodhagale all Nagpur and Niranjan Gokhale Nashik were tied for the third place with nine points each to their credit and on the application of tie-breaker they were adjudged third to ninth respectively. Jaideep Shaligram of Parbhani along with Vinod Adane, Anshuman Purankar, Subodh Lakhe and Shailesh Makhijani finished jointly on the 10th position.
Ashwini Kulkarni of Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce, Pune, who was injured on Thursday, won her both the remaining games to earn 8.5 points and win the title. Anuprita Patil Pune and Mugdha Dolas of Nagpur were tied on the second place with 7.5 points each to their credit but on the application of tie-breaker they finished second and third respectively.
Prathamesh Mokal, Akash Thakur, Gurpreet Singh Maras and Arjun Tiwari would represent the State in the junior nationals, while Ashwini Kulkarni and Anuprita Patil would figure in the girls section.
The coveted G H Raisoni rolling trophy was bagged by Mahatma Gandhi Centennial Sindhi Hindi High School, Jaripatka, Nagpur, for earning maximum points by its students 8212; Hitesh Jeswani, Shailesh Makhijani, Sushant Sukhdeve and Abhishek Arya. Somalwar Nikalas High School won the second prize. Pratik Shriwas, Shounak Mitra, Pitak Mitra and Nikhil Agrawal represented Somalwar School. The under-15 and under-10 team trophies went to the Somalwar Nikalas School. Aditya Kranti, Anurag Peshne, Pushkar Masodkar and Ishan Munje were the under-10 team members of Somalwar School.
Mahavir International Chairman, Shantilal Barjatiya distributed the prizes. Joint-director Technical Education, Nagpur, G R Barahate presided over, while former secretary of the Maharashtra Chess Association, R M Dongre was the special guest.
