Pranab in Middle-East to boost ties

India and the UAE discussed ways to boost security military cooperation and reviewed other intl developments.

India and the United Arab Emirates have discussed ways to boost security and military cooperation and reviewed regional and global developments.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who met his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, discussed ways to boost the bilateral military and security ties, apart from exchanging views on the latest developments in regional and international arena.

The two ministers also discussed the situation in Lebanon, the Middle-East peace process, new developments in Iraq and on Iranian8217;s nuclear programme, the official Emirates news agency reported.

The meeting was attended by Director of the UAE8217;s Foreign Minister8217;s Office Rashid Hareb Al Falahi and Indian Ambassador to the UAE Talmiz Ahmed.

Mukherjee is on a three-day official visit to the Gulf nation. This is the first visit by an Indian foreign minister to the UAE in several years. The minister will meet Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nahyan later on Tuesday.
