
Kolhapur, Dec 16: Western Maharashtra8217;s Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur districts and other parts of the region went without power supply for about seven hours today. Gadmudsingee power station sources here said, the cause of power failure was due to major disturbances in Parli-Vaijanath power station. Work at the MIDC Shiroli and Gokul-Shirgaon industrial units came to a standstill following an abrupt power failure, causing losses worth crores of rupees, according to a spokesman.
The power breakdown also hit the working of the State legislature here. Power supply went off at 1100 hours and could be restored only at 1500 hours. The working of the two Houses was carried on with the help of generators. Working in news agencies and newspapers was also severely affected. Even the All India Radio could not broadcast their 1450 hours bulletin today.
The power failure also affected the working of four power projects in Madhya Pradesh here, causing severe disruption in electricity supply. The other states affected bythe power failure included Gujarat and Goa.
According to official sources, working of the 2100 megawatt capacity Korba super thermal power project, 270 megawatt capacity Balco captive power plant, 840 megawatt capacity Hansdeo power project and 200 megawatt Western Bank of MPEB was adversely disrupted.
The place of fault in the western grid had yet to be defected, according to sources at National Thermal Power Corporation.
