CHANDIGARH, June 17: Despite the recent spell of rains, power problems persist in several parts of the City.

Among the worst hit is Industrial Area Phase I and Phase II. Irate industrialists told Chandigarh Newsline that on Monday, there was no power supply from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Again, power was disrupted on Tuesday afternoon and the supply was resumed at about 5 p.m. today.Industrialists point out that on account of these frequent disruptions, the city industry is facing a loss of lakhs of rupees.

“While there is already a slump in the industry, we are not even able to meet our orders on time because of these frequent power disruptions,” said an industrialist.

A delegation of the Federation of Small Scale Industries met senior officials of the UT Engineering Department and highlighted their problems. General secretary of the Federation stressed that the problems were being caused due to the inferior material used in the installations and lack of regular maintenance.

Meanwhile, there was no power supply for a couple of hours today to Sector 35-A. Residents of Sector 30-B have also written to Chandigarh Newsline that there was no electricity for ten hours in the area, causing considerable problems.
