NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 6: In a bid to make the ports more efficient and viable the Government has plans to privatise 12 major ports in the country. As a first step towards inviting private participation in infrastructure sector of construction and maintenance of ports, the Government proposes to convert all the 12 port trusts into autonomous corporations in three phases within Ninth Five-Year Plan only.
