
CHANDIGARH, Sept 10: The Central Polytechnic College Students Union observed a day8217;s strike in protest against the suspension of 70 students within a span of 10 days.
The agitating students demanded removal of S. Gurdev Singh, Head, Department Electrical Engineering, from the chairmanship of disciplinary committee, revoking the suspension of all suspended students, reposing the authority to suspend students only with the principal.
The students also protested against unhygienic conditions in the architect block, non functioning computers, and demanded a fortnightly meeting of the students council and student union with the principal.
Later, the principal and the students8217; representatives worked things out and the suspended students were reinstated. According to Vijay Pal, president of CPCSU the principal has also assured to dissolve the disciplinary committee.
LIC body lists demands
The city unit of the LIC Class-I Officers Association at its meeting today demanded immediate revision of the recommendation and findings of Justice S Mohan Committee. The divisional president M.P. Bajaj said that the federation had already submitted a charter of demands to the management for immediate settlement of the issue in the interest of the organisation.
The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Road Workers Union held a rally in Sector 28 to press their demands, which include payment of arrears of minimum wages for two months from April 1 to May 31, 1996; implementation of decision of the apex court; and supply of tools, uniforms and barsatis to workers.
The Federation of UT Employees and Workers today condemned the physical assault on cameraman of Desh Sewak by the Union Minister of Industries Sukhbir Singh Badal and his followers.
