PATIALA, AUG 17: Former Akal Takht jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh said here today that the politics and religion were inseparable as far as Sikhism was concerned.
Addressing a political conference here at Gurdwara New Singh Sabha in favour of Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, All India Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary, he said the Akali leadership got real shakti from Akal Takht and it worked as a check over the leadership too.
He said that Akal Takht was not the personal property of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal but belonged to every Sikh. He said that Badal had dared to challenge the authority of Akal Takht and had to give account for all his misdeeds before Akal Takht soon because traditionally Akal Takht never forgives any person challenging its authority. Regarding his joining the campaigning in favour of third front candidates, he said that third front had decided to field panthic candidates in protest against the anti-panthic forces in the state.
While addressing the conference AISAD chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra challenged Badal for an open debate in public over the performance of Akali Dal led government. Tohra claimed that the third front would finally decide the formation of government at the Centre.
Speaking on the occasion, Chandumajra sought the cooperation of the people to win the elections.
Before this, Bhai Ranjit Singh, G. S. Tohra, Chandumajra, and Rajinder Singh Tohra, went to pay homage to late Sewa Singh Tikriwala at his statue site and garlanded the statue.
Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra was brought in a procession from Zirakpur after opening an office there.
