Intel chairman Craig Barrett today blamed a delay by the Government in announcing a policy for semiconductor manufacturing for its decision to bypass India and set up chip manufacturing units in China and Vietnam. He, however, said that the company would give priority to India whenever it plans to add capacities.

8220;We were in serious discussions for chip manufacturing in India but the Government was a bit slow on semiconductor manufacturing proposals,8221; said Barrett. Justifying Intel8217;s decision to go to Vietnam and China, Barrett said, 8220;to set up a manufacturing base, we do planning years in advance.. the China and Vietnam plans were made much earlier. As the Government was slow in announcing the policy, in the window period we went to these two countries.8221;

He, however, assured that India will be high on priority for future expansion.
