
BANGALORE, JUNE 20: The strong policemen and women dethroned Services and Karnataka, respectively, even as one more record was shattered on the final day of the 51st men and 14th women Senior National weight-lifting championships here today.
The Police etched their name on the Burdwan Shield logging 564 points bagging three gold, four silver and four bronze. Reigning champions Services could tally only 542 after winning six gold, five silver and three bronze.
The Police women clinched the P Muniswamy Muthurayar Trophy with a tally of 464 winning nine gold, three silver and five bronze. Orissa finished a close second with 447 points bagging three silver and 10 bronze.
Satish Rai Bank Sports Board and Sanmacha Chanu Delhi were adjudged as the best lifters of the meet.
In the Inter-State section, Maharashtra finished winners with 176 and Punjab ended runners up with 173 points.
The lone record of the day fell in the plus 105 kg category when Dalbir Singh of Punjab lifted 170 kg to better his ownmark set in the National Games by 2.5 kg.
