Police misusing power: Chawla

AMRITSAR, Nov 29: Bjp MLA Luxmi Kanta Chawla today alleged that few anti-social elements were indulging in organised land grabbing and getting houses vacated forcefully by misusing police and political machinery in Punjab.

She said there had been dozens of cases in Amritsar alone, where people with muscle power had ploughed others8217; land and made away with the harvest. She said, there were cases where police did not help the aggrieved party . She alleged that in Gurdaspur district also, there had been similar incidents., but the police and the administration had only become mute spectators.

Chawla demanded opening of a separate cell at the state secretariat to redress such complaints and also urged to get a committee of three MLAs appointed to monitor the functioning of this cell.
