
4 robberies in 24 hours
At least four incidents of robbery were reported in the city during the past 24 hours.
In Harinagar last night, three unidentified youths allegedly robbed a scooterist of Rs 35,000. The scooterist, Kedarnath an employee at the Mother Dairy milk booth, was on his way to his Vishnu Garden residence with the day8217;s earnings. Around 9.30 p.m., three youths in an autorickshaw overtook his scooter near DDU hospital and attacked him. Kedarnath attempted to put up a resistance, but the youths forced him to hand over the bag in which he was carrying the money.
Vimla Choudhury, 45, was going to meet her daughter in Rohini, when she was robbed of Rs 5,000 last night. Two youths, on a two-wheeler, reportedly waylaid the autorickshaw and took away the money from her at knife-point. In Nangloi, a factory worker was stabbed and robbed of Rs 500 and his wrist-watch by three youths last night. Another robbery was reported from a house in the Uttam Nagar area this evening.
Youths arrested for kidnapping
The Mayapuri police have arrested two more youths for kidnapping Jitender Goel, 9, a resident of Nangal Rai. On Tuesday, the police had arrested one of the abductors, Bijender Rai, a day after the kidnapping. The two others were absconding. Bijender, 22, developed cold feet and brought Jitender back to his home on Tuesday.
Wine shop looted
Unidentified men burgled Rs 1.3 lakh, a generator set and some bottles of liquor from a Delhi Tourism department-run wine shop in the New Kondli area of east Delhi last night.
The incident was reported to the police after the employees of the outlet found the shutters broken open this morning. When they inspected the shop, they found Rs 1.30 lakh missing from the cash box. A generator set and wine bottles worth about Rs 5,500 were also missing.
The Ashok Nagar police have registered a case of burglary.
Thieves nabbed
The Defence Colony police say they have solved 14 cases of theft and burglary with the arrest of four men on Thursday. The police seized three generators and two television sets, water pumps, electricity meters and gas cylinders from their hideout. The four are from the Gautam Nagar jhuggies and reportedly operated in Defence Colony, Gulmohar Park, Green Park and Hauz Khas. They would pose as kabariwallahs and scout the area before choosing their target.
On the day of the operation, the gang members would watch a late-night movie then move out to the target house. They would scale walls, climb up drain-pipes and carry out the robbery. The men would then remove the stolen goods to their jhuggies in autorickshaws. Of the four, two were employed as safai-karamcharis at Qutab Hotel.
