PUNE, June 29: The Pune Municipal Transport PMT has been advised by the Pune Municipal Corporation PMC general body to put on hold its decision to cancel three bus routes even as the elected office-bearers make a last-ditch attempt to pursue the traffic police authorities to exempt the city transport buses from its one-way norms imposed at several road links in downtown.

The issue was raised by corporator Joytsna Sardeshpande who feared greater inconvenience to the students due to proposed cancellation of 53 bus routes in phased manner beginning with the three routes. The PMT administration should have consulted the general body before resorted to the drastic step, she opined.

Bayas clarified that the bus routes were proposed to be cancelled with effect from July 2 and 3. It was decided at the meeting that Mayor Vatsala Andekar would lead a delegation of elected office-bearers to Police Commissioner K K Kashyap within next couple of days and try and settle the issue.

Later during the question-answer session, corporators Swati Nimhan and Nitin Jagtap criticised the anti-encroachment squad8217;s recent action against the eateries along the University chowk-end of Pashan road. Jagtap alleged that the anti-encroachment action had been taken to serve the business interests of a Chinese restaurant that had come up in the same vicinity about six months ago.
