DERA BASSI, Aug 14: To provide quality education and achieve cent per cent literacy, the Patiala district authority has prepared an ambitious plan to invest Rs 25 lakh for the maintenance and upgradation of primary schools in rural areas of Rajpura Sub-division. These investments will be made in the current financial year.

Supervising the self-employment awareness camp orgaised at Samgauli on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway near Dera Bassi, the Rajpura SDM Ashok K. Sikka said that the amount had been released and the maintenance works of the schools would start shortly. He told ENS that the aim of the camp, organised in various focal points of the sub-division, was to create awareness among the unemployed youth so that they could start their own business.

Under the self-employment scheme launched by the Punjab Government, SDM said, the Khadi and Village Industries Corporation has agreed to release a sum of 80.30 lakh to the unemployed youth for setting up their own industries.

Those interested should come forward and apply on prescribed forms available from the office of Sub-divisional Magistrate, Rajpura, it was said. Sikka also appealed to the farmers to start appi-cultures and pisci-cultures in addition to their regular produce for which the district authority is providing loan at nominal rate of interest.

Among others present on the occasion were district employment officer, Kusum Gulati, P.K. Diwan and senior Khadi Board officials.
