
MUMBAI, May 21: S Pecualtives reacted further on the Bombay Stock Exchange BSE today mainly lack of fresh buying and profit taking at the higher level.The session started subdued and pivotals led by ITC, SBI and other delined further as the session progressed. The closing rates showed small to modest losses. The volume of business remained below normal and the closing undertone at the close remained subdued.
The BSE sensitive index dropped further from the opening level of 3766.03 to finish at 3735.01 with a net loss of 33.29 points compared to the previous level of 3768.30. The BSE-100 index lost 13.20 points to 1611.34 from the previous level of 1624.62.
ITC continued to be the most active scrip with a turnover of Rs 226.09 crore in the total volume of business of Rs 582.38 crore followed by SBI of Rs 122.16 crore, Reliance of Rs 39.76, Tata Steel of Rs 35.59 crore and Telco of Rs 26.05 crore.
ITC lost Rs 20 at Rs 419.50 on selling pressure and SBI Rs 6 at Rs 305.75 on profit taking.Telco lost Rs 5.50 at Rs 393.50 and Tata Steel closed slightly lower at Rs 178.25. ACC, BSES, Glaxo, Gujarat A Cement, Hindalco, Hindustan Lever, Indian Hotels, IPCL, Larsen, MTNL, Tata Power, ABB, Century Textiles, Hero Honda, HDFC, E I Hotels, Ranbaxy, Indian Rayon and Lakme also remained subdued.However, Grasim spurted by Rs 13.75 to Rs 371.25 on speculative support. Colgate, HPCL, IDBI, Excel, Tata Tea and Oriental Bank also remained better.
On the National Stock Exchange NSE equity prices sought lower levels moving in a slightly wider range on the first day of the current settlement today owing to bear pressure from speculators. The NSE-50 index opened easier at 1047.50 and dipped further to a low of 1040.55 before closing at 1042.00, showing a fall of 8.85 from the previous close of 1050.85. The Midcap opened at 1137.50, dropped to a low of 1124.10 and closed at 1125.40, with a loss of 8.55 from the previous close of 1133.95. total business turnover was Rs 1205.86 crore.
